The Small Prince Congress

Fascinating, finally, the title of this Congress is in him only a challenge. Return in Ombrie after several years, from pretty hills and the small villages with sides of montagnes.

I was born in Città di Castello, and in front of my screen Word, Piero della Francesca and Duccio di Buoninsegna return to me to the spirit, famous representatives of Italy a little forgotten.

There have been many years there, in an euphoric dash and yet in-on this side the EC, which I test today, I signed a document almost homonymously.

Delusions of greatness? Probably, but also perhaps ridiculous veneration for something which I find, now, here, in Terni, seat of a Congress of vital importance.

At the Professional Institute A.Casagrande (National Coordination of the Project, (http://scuole.provincia.tr.it/ipsct tr/homepage.htm), equipped with 5 large data-processing workshops and telematics, one speaks about what gathers us: veneration of technologies or the man? And the voices are many.

And to begin with that, persistent, of the Small Prince, Projet European (http://www.petit-prince-euro.org) (financed by the UE), which implies 12 adherent nations in Euro, but with an effort of widening to the Eastern European countries and Russia in particular.

We spoke about it in the issue of last June about IS.

About how many voices, which it is impossible of all to enumerate them, but with a common denominator: to incite for the use of new technologies in the schools but with a certain respect of the humanistic role of the teacher, pedagogue, guard of youth in becoming.

With the opening of the Congress, the Inspector of Education Office of Terni, the Mayor-Assistant in charge of the Public Instruction, the Mayor-Assistant in charge of the culture of the town of Narni, the Mayor of Amelia, the Headmaster of the Institute were present to testify to the deep interest expressed by the Institutions.

Without forgetting the organizing ones, which with a key of feminism and intense months of work, allowed this go international teachers representatives of 13 countries, of a significant Italian delegation and much of other famous guests: Maria Ludovica Santori (President Eurosésame Ombrie mlsantor@tin.it ), Romana Bertini, Rita Carotti, Serenella D' Astoli, Matilde Cuccuini, Elisabetta Riveruzzi and Beatrice Lorenzoni, teaching in Terni, Narni and Amelia. This Congress which follows that of Sevres-Paris last July, one approaches a watershed for the Telematic European Association of the Teachers of Eurosésame ( http://www.eurosesame.org http://www.eurosesame.com, eurosesame@citi2.fr ), organizer, with 6 other Organizations and European Organizations of Projet.Depuis almost 20 years already, (at its beginnings with another initials), it militates for the expansion of new technologies in teaching, in the field of the humanism, and to which we are proud to form part.

The group directing International has to renew the Presidency, until present behavior by the founder Robert Valette, of Paris. Who will remain honorary President.

It is precisely Robert, with his modesty and his vast culture, resulting from the Gateway Office of Teaching Studies of Sevres-Paris, (http://www.ciep.fr), which began work on this topic. While being inspired abundantly by Proclamation of Eurosésame, and would deserve very much space in these columns.

New Technologies (NT) can mean dire dehumanization, worship crown and idealization of machine. Which recommend one era of total mechanicalism.

The primacy being of man, of feeling, of ethics, of morals, of love and it must be so. The computer is an instrument that is necessary with this requirement, and certainly not to set up in monument. We who have fought for the introduction of telematics with school since the time of Vidéotel, less we not forget. We come from opposition to a school with only technique, robotized, merchandise. As with class virtual assign with some other form of artificial teaching source.

We do one, which can be. The debate is open, let us now talk the Little Prince.

" The large people like the numbers. When you speak to them about a new friend, they are never interested in the principal things. They do not wonder; " How is the tone of its voice? Which are its preferred plays? Does it collect the butterflies? "

But they ask you: " How old is? How much does it have brothers? Which is its weight? How much does his/her father gain? " In the 3 days of conference and workshops, the debate was animated, advantageous, positive, of tons of work were carried out and of the projects were presented. But it is not in our intention to transform this report into an unpleasant list. The official languages of the Congress are the Italian and the French. The translations of exposed and the debates are entrusted to our colleague Caroline Di Milla ( e.fusaglia@helpcompany.it ) and to organizing even for certain interventions. All the Projects are visualized on giant screen, some ones sound and readable on CD or directly on Internet.

Without respecting the chronological order, let us enter the more significant aspects. The Slovak Colleague Màja Briestenskà ( majabr@miesto.sk ) presented a very beautiful project: The Star of Gold, thanks to which we have become acquainted with the Small Princess. Who expresses the currency of Saint-Exupéry perfectly " It is necessary to create links between the men " The project is divided into 3 parts, linked by the " leitmotiv " of the Small Princess.

It represents messages of the pupils in Eurosésamis on the humanistic topics. Represents the countries of Slovaquie, its history, its castles. Indeed, the small princess is to create the purpose of a link between Europe Western and Eastern...

Is it not best to condense a beauty literary, humanistic, political and imaginative to begin a short " summary " of this Congress? Is it only about humanism? Not, that we speak about " NT ",New Technologies, and the series of workshops envisaged in the program clarifies it. It is worth drawing up a list immediately. To have an idea, in the way in which the Small Prince, VEHICULE his humanistic values. It is significant to also underline how the workshops were decentralized voluntarily fully by a country, while making it take part of many Schools and Institutes ·

Personally I always considered the complicated technique, when my computer does not function, I call upon an expert friend. The workshops were very useful, but also the atmosphere, lively, culturally lives, available and prepared, varied and ordered, sufficiently cosmopolitan. In all sincerity, that gives the impression to me to have taken part in this formidable Congress.

George Labasse is teaching at the primary school Jules Ferry of Blois in France ( ferry.jules@vanadoo.fr ; http://etab.ac-Orleans-tours.fr/ec-jferry-blois/defaut.htm ); its intervention was articulated on the topic " the restarting of the data-processing equipment in the schools and the access to Internet; the presentation of plan of creation of Space Public Numerical " .But the more beautiful being when on the large screen of Congress be appear the image of videoconference between student of Kennedy High School of Rome, and of College of Blois on the topic of Racism and still between the College of Lipari (Prof.Donato) and the College of Blois on " The Utopia engine of history ", which took place the 17 October.

Alwais within the framework of Netdays, the 23 November, 3 other videoconference be announced: between Bildengzentrum Lyceum Markdorf (Germany) and the A.Gentileschi Institute of Milan on " Peace "; between the Sorbonne of Paris and Gentileschi on the topic " Future " and between the Schiapparelli High School of Milan and Markdorf on the topic of Euro, all directed by Professor Stefano Gorla, operative Core of didactic Technologies MPI and responsible Netdays ( capitano@venus.it ). This being the largest experts in Telematics at the school at the national level.

Professor Ruben Ibanez, of the I.U.F.M. (University Institute of Training of the Masters) (ruben.ibanez@ac-versailles.fr), Saint-Germain Center in Bush hammer proposed a detailed hearing of the formation within the Academy of Versailles.

But let us make a pause (perhaps too " humanistic?") the Small Prince requests from the Businessman: " How can one have stars? " Answer: " A which is? Let us notice, so to speak, that actually the Projects presented to this Congress are three: " the Small Prince ", " Europe magna ", " Netdays ".

We can not, as we it like them illustrate in way adapt just like we can quote only some of the 20 representative European, in addition to 90 Italian and of all the guest "... The Small Prince is each one of us, when it is remove from its worm eaten box. This child forget and but smiles and goes with him, in search of a friend... "

It brings to mind the title of a collection of Paul Eluard, " Poetry Uninterrupted ", in reconsider with wonderful work of multi-media some young person of L ' ITCS " Caio Plinio Secondo " of Come, " Presentation of a workshop theatrical multi-media ". The Core Minerve of the University of Evora in Portugal, on behalf of Professor Jose Luis Carvalho ( jlc@minerva@uevora.pt ) presented the site of the Small Prince to Portugal ( HTTP: / / www.minerva.uevora.pt/jlc/petitprince / ).Graphics are splendid, the site is dedicated to the children of the last years of the primary school (8/9 years) and it is a true adventure, told in Portuguese and French, in discovered of Portugal through Euro( translated in Italian by third D Class pupils of Don Milani College- Massa Italy), with a fabulous welcome page of castles, emblems, coins Euro and a small geographical card drawn by the children: presentation, introduction, activity, resources, process, conclusion. Joana Vidal, of Office of the Educational and Scientific Co-operation of the European Union (Barcelona, Spain),( jvidal@pie.xtec.es ) illustrates the voyage of the Small Prince in Catalonia "... I want to be made friends and to know many things... ", the sentence is proposed in five languages and the voyage begins with the image of Sagrada Famiglia from the Gaudi Architect, one of the wonders of the world, continuous with contacts of the schools of Catalonia, with Finland, Austria and Italy: here we find the " Keifriends " of the Alessi College and of the IES Guineueta, with all their presentations ( http://www.eurosesame.org/espagne/euroses9900/index.htm ). Alexander Porchnev (poav210@mail.ru), Chercheur at the department of psychology, data processing specialist at the University of Nijni Novgorod (Russia) and the colleague Elena Porchnev, director of the French department in the same university, of languages ( root@elen.sci-nnov.ru ) present a fabulous software creates by them-even for the teaching of French, very applauded for the practical intelligence of the proposal and animation. That marvellous treasures in the schools and the universities of the world, now, and finally in the process of connection! This Congress knew to avoid the trap of arid and mechanical technicality!

 

Briefly let us return... to Italy: The A.Casagrande Institute promotes a network of schools Européennes (Comenius Project) to develop the use of new technologies and languages at the primary school and secondaire. Objective: to develop the exchanges and to spread the use of the NT in the didactic one, the language, the update remotely and the international exchange. The network: Inst.A.Casagrande, coordinator ( http://ipscasagrande.interfree.it ), Primary school " Jole Orsini " - Amelia - Professor Beatrice Lorenzoni ( joleorsini1@supereva.it - http://joleorsini1.supereva.it ), Understanding Institute " Bartolomeo d' Alviano " of Guardea - Professor M.Federica Santori ( icguardea2@katamail.it ), two Polish schools: " College of Training of the Professors in Poland " - Professor Janina Zielinska - ( euroform@venus.ci.uw.edu.pl ) and " Szkola Podatawowa NR 63 " (Warsaw) - Professor Grazyna Markiewicz ( will klara markiewicz@poczta.arena.pl ) and Slovak: " Obchodona Akademia " (Commercial school) - Professor Maria Briestenska ( majar@oase.psg.sk ) of Senica. The two schools of Tarnished and Amelia also decided to carry out a didactic-theatrical experimentation with a final spectacle centered on the Small Prince, conveyed by CD, Internet, video and chat.

It is with reserve that we must conclude: many other presentations would deserve to be quoted.

First of all let us point out the ACU (Association of the Consumers Users) ( http://www.acu.it ) which supports the European Project with many initiatives in the schools partly supported by the UE on Euro, and collaborate, together with. . - Association Enfants du Monde - Droits des Enfants, (http://www.petit-prince-euro.org/Associations/enfants.htm ) with Eurosesame Association.

 

Let us recall, among so many others, the " historical " College Carducci-Tenerani de Carrare (http://space.tin.it/clubnet/gyvcos), its headmaster-assistant Professor Paolo Coscia ( paolo_coscia@tin.it ) with whom we collaborate since ten years in the field of the Telematics, which publishes on its site the wonderful tales of Beniamino Gemignani illustrated with the drawings of the pupils.

Let us point out the beautiful initiatives of the Album of the Small Prince who will be printed (4 pages) in the language of each adherent country, with emblems, monuments, photographs, drawings, the Euro currencies and the bag which will accompany us in these virtual voyages through Europe, until the realization of the Project in June 2001.

Finally let us point out, for all, the workshop for the translation in 42 languages, including the Japanese, the Arab and the Russian, of Primrose Publishing of Cambridge (England), with the program of Tick Tack ( www.rmplc.co.uk/com/dsephton )presented by David Sephton ( dsephton@rmplc.co.uk ) who includes dictionaries in 5 languages, video exercises and " to write, read, hear, speak " to help the translations, in addition to the software for the drawing of the sites.

Gloria Bernardi ( bernardi@bdp.it ), Service Documentation IRRE Toscane ( http://www.irre.toscana.it ) communicates the Project " Euro Zone to us " present on the site of the Institute, connected to the Project of the Small Prince and usable by all the Italian schools which want to profit from it.

Also should be quoted a teacher absent: Professor Germain Lalonde ( infolang@cyberus.ca ) retained in Canada because of his personal obligations. He could not take part in the Congress, but sent his contribution by email to us: two very beautiful photographs and a list of 70 French-speaking sites (also on petit Prince) which can be useful for the French teachers, they available near are thus undersigned for those which will make the request of it.

Famous guests with the Congress of Terni

The European Commission (Education and General Directorate Culture), in Terni was represented by Maria Kokkonen ( maria.kokkonen@cec.eu.int ), Project Manager, person in charge of Net@ is Europe ( http://www.netdays2000.org ) which made a rapid assessment of Netd@is 1999 by illustrating the finalities of this superb initiative:

Sensitizing with use of teaching of new media, Internet in particular, as mode of transmission and acquisition of knowledge and of knowledge, like instrument and resource teaching, for the education, the formation and the culture. The pages of its intervention write, that it we have left, count 13 great projects which imply some thousand of school not only in Europe but in the world whole, of Alaska with Australia. Nicoletta Biferale ( nicbif@tin.it ) of the MPI ( http://www.istruzione.it ) presented the significant project language 2000, for the introduction of a second Community language into the school structure .Language 2000 met of work a series of innovating actions and in continuity in the three school cycles for learning/teaching of the living languages. The finality of the innovation is to learn how the living languages in order to acquire pragmatic and communicative competences throughout formative school course. The objective is to develop communicative competences of reception, communication, oral and written production, in connection with the segments of age and the progression of the courses.

The Headmaster Anna Paola Fraternale of Rome ( annapaof@tin.it ) have presented a hypertext multi-media very interesting on the " School school system of European Union ". La first leave be divide into 12 subject of presentation of system education. Every prone can be thorough for each Nation. For 8 subjects specific the 15 countries be approach globalement. It would be possible to himself differentiate between country Néolatins, Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian, and one can compare 4 countries in same temps.

There exists, moreover, one Glossary Multi-languages and a Dictionary of Technology educational, and for 12 country of sequence Video which illustrate the aspect of school structure . There is also a version English of hypertext.

Francesca Trani, of the I.S.F.O.L. (http://www.programma, leonardo.net ) presented the Program Leonardo, program of the European Union, which proposes to apply a policy of Professional Formation .

The program pursues three general goals:

 

Paola Coppi ( paola.coppi@posta.bdp.it ) of the Teaching Library of Documentation ( http://www.bdp.it ) illustrated the Socrates Project, instituted in 1995 by the treaty of Maastricht, which envisages the financing by the European Commission of Projects worked out in the schools.

One part of the Project, is managed by the National Agencies Socrates, in the various countries. Italian is the BDP of Florence.

Into the various sub-projects of Socrates that which interests the school instruction is " Comenius " Au term of the first phase, into 2001 Comenius, it will come into effect, divided into 3 parts: I - European Educational Projects; II - Personal Training of the Teacher; III - Networks themes.

The Agency selects and finances the decentralized actions, the fundamental criterion is " Internationality ", At least three schools of various Europeans countries must take part in it, of which Coordinator. The financings are 3000 Euros for this one and 2000 for the others. Thereafter, the results of this work will be evaluated by the Council of Institut. These topics vary: history, music, art, Nouvelles technologies...
